Domingos Machado
“I fell asleep many times on the tapes that fell in the shape of a propeller, near my father's feet”
In the heart of Minho, in Braga, there is a man who for over 60 years has preserved and elevated all the knowledge that his father had once given him. Domingos Machado, master craftsman, is such a simple man in his way of being as skilled in the art of making well stringed musical instruments. His nickname is “Violeiro”, and he is proud of this epithet. His father was already known as a guitar player, "comes from art" - says the artisan. He does not hide the pride he feels when he talks about the instruments he makes in his workshop, he has already spent time. “I fell asleep many times on tapes that fell in the shape of a propeller, near my father's feet. At that time, the strongest were the Cavaquinhos and the violas Braguesas; that was what was sold at the fairs ”, says the master. Persistent in what you do, spend the time you spend, the piece comes out of your hands like a beautiful masterpiece. Be especially careful when placing the glue, because it is the one who prepares it. Apply the old varnish to your pieces, a compound of gum, lacquer and alcohol in order to give that gloss of different shades so appreciated.
